Gas laws 3
CHEMISTRY SSS1 Second Term
WEEK 8
Gas laws 3
Performance Objectives
The student should be able to:
- State Graham’s law of diffusion
- Solve calculations on Graham’s law of diffusion
- Define Avogadro’s number, molar gas volume, and mole concepts
Content
Graham’s law of diffusion
Graham law of diffusion states that at a constant temperature and pressure, the rate of diffusion of a gas is inversely proportional to the square root of its density or molar mass, i.e.
R1/R2 = (M2/M1)1/2
Where:
M1 = Molar mass of gas X
R1 = Rate of diffusion of gas X
