Chemical reactions 1
CHEMISTRY SSS2 First Term
WEEK 3
Chemical reactions 1
Performance objectives
Students should be able to:
- Identify reactants and products of any reaction
- Explain collision theory with respect to reaction time and reaction rate.
- List and explain at least three factors that affect the rate of chemical reactions
Content
Rate of chemical reaction
The rate of a chemical reaction is the amount of moles of reactant converted or products formed per unit time i.e.
Rate of reaction= change in concentration of reactant or product
Time taken for the change
In a reaction like
Zn(s) + 2HCl (aq) ------à ZnCl (aq) + H2 (g)
