Alkanols 2

CHEMISTRY SSS2 Third Term

WEEK 10

Alkanols 2

Performance objectives

Students should be able to:

  1. Identify polyhydric, dihydric, and trihydric alcohol with examples
  2. Explain the chemical properties of Alkanols.
  3. Give at least three uses of Alkanols.

Content

Classification of Alkanols based on their hydroxyl group

Monohydric alcohol

Alcohols containing one hydroxyl (-OH) group are known as monohydric alcohols.

For example

Ethanol: CH3-CH2-OH, Propanol: CH3-CH2-CH2-OH

Dihydric Alkanols
