Gear speed, ratio, and speed of rotation
When two gears mesh or engage together, one is called a driven gear while the other, is called a driving gear. Therefore driving gear is a gear to which power is supplied for transmission to another gear wheel.
The rate at which the gear turns per second is the gear speed. It is measured in revolution per minute. The speed of rotation of gear is indirectly proportional to the number of teeth. If the driver gear turns or rotates in a clockwise direction the driven gear turns in an anticlockwise direction and vice versa.
