Content
Meaning of human trafficking
This is the practice of illegally recruiting, transporting, harbouring of people for exploitation purpose.
Examples of such purposes include forced labour, commercial sexual exploitations, rituals, removal of body organs. Victims of human trafficking are mostly women and children.
Human trafficking is a crime against the victim because it involves the violation of the victim’s right through threats or other forms of exploitation. Human trafficking is caused by;
1. High level of unemployment and poverty
2. Lack of adequate and efficient law against human traffickers etc.
Health implication of human trafficking on victims
The health implications of human trafficking include the following;
1. Unwanted pregnancy due to sexual abuse
2. Victims suffer depression due to isolation
3. Exposure to sexually transmitted diseases as they are used for prostitution.
4. Mental imbalance
5. Loss of lives
6. Malnutrition due to inadequate feeding
7. Physical abuse e.g, beating
