Meaning of HIV and AIDS
HIV means Human Immune-deficiency Virus and AIDS means Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. AIDS is a disease of the human system caused by HIV. By damaging one’s immune system, HIV interferes with the body’s ability to fight the organisms that cause disease.
HIV is a sexually transmitted infection. It can also be spread by contact with infected blood or from mother to child during pregnancy.
Causes of HIV/AIDS
HIV/AIDS is transmitted through various channels, they include:
1. During sexual acts: Unprotected sex with someone already carrying HIV has accounted for a greater number of cases of HIV infection worldwide.
