MEANING OF MOTIF
The motif is the basic or smallest unit of a design. Motifs are solely used in creating patterns on paper and fabric. The use of motifs in creating patterns on paper and fabric is based on the principle of design called ‘repetition’. Motifs are further repeated several times to form a pattern. The types of motifs include simple repeat patterns, mirror repeat patterns, checkerboard repeat patterns, full drop repeat patterns, half drop repeat patterns, counterchange repeat patterns and diamond repeat patterns. Motifs can be created in lives, dots and shapes etc.
