Cell and Its Environment
Biology SSS 1 First Term
WEEK 5
Cell and Its Environment
Performance Objectives
Student should be able to:
- Give some factors that enable the cell to interact with its environment
- Give and explain how these factors help the cell in interacting with its environment.
Content
To survive in a dynamic world, cells evolved mechanisms for adjusting their organic chemistry in response to signals indicating environmental modification. The cell selectively allows materials to move in and out of it to maintain the level of these materials at the appropriate levels. Some of the mechanisms the cells use to achieve this are diffusion, osmosis, plasmolysis, haemolysis, turgidity, and flaccidity.
Diffusion
Diffusion is defined as the movement of the molecules or.... View More
