Estimation

Performance Objectives.

Students should be able to

1. Estimate the dimensional distance within the school.

2. Estimate the mass and capacity of given objects.

3. Estimate other things in day to day activities.

4. Solve problems on quantitative reasoning on estimation.

 Content.

Estimation is a rough guess or calculation of the value, size or amount of an object or item. Since estimation is usually done without actual calculation, an estimated value will only give an idea of the actual value.

In estimation of length and area

10mm=1cm

10cm=1 dm(decimeter)

10dm=1m

1000m=1km.

The common units of length (i.e km,m,cm,mm) ,mass (i.e tonne,kg,g), capacity(i.e, l,cl,ml) and time(hr,min,sec).

Example 1: To measure the distance between Lagos and Benin-city we use km.

Example 2: To measure the height of a man we use metres and centimetres.

Week 2.
