Mechanical Energy I
Physics SSS2 Second Term
Sub Theme: Conservation Principle
WEEK 3
Mechanical Energy I
Performance Objectives
Students should be able to;
- Calculate the kinetic and potential energy of a body
- Show that the total energy is conserved for a given set of data on the energy of a particle in a conservative field
- Verify conservation of energy principle
Concept of work as a measure of Energy
Content
Work and energy are common concepts we always encounter in our lives on a daily basis. If one does not have energy, one cannot do any work. The stored up energy (potential energy) in our muscular system is converted to kinetic energy. When work and energy are related, they have the same unit of measurement called Joule.
Work
Work is said to be done when a body moves in the direction of the force.... View More
