The statistical/four figure table can be used to find the squares and square roots of four-digit numbers.

Example 1:

1. With the use of tables, evaluate:

(a) 33.62² (b) 0.36²

Solution:

(a) 33.62²

33.62 lies between 30 and 40. Therefore 33.62² lies between 30² and 40²

40² = 1600
