Performance objectives

The student should be able to:

1. State the meaning of self-consciousness.
2. Distinguish between the group and communal consciousness.

Content

Self-consciousness means awareness about oneself.

Once an individual is aware or conscious of him/herself, such a person becomes conscious of his or her civic rights and responsibilities to the economy as well as the national. Examples of these responsibilities are; obeying rules and regulations, paying taxes etc.

Differences between the group and communal consciousness

Group consciousness	Communal consciousness
Groups are aware of their responsibilities to the group	This is the awareness of the community to its political and civic responsibilities.
