CHEMISTRY  SSS1  First Term

WEEK 9

Particulate nature of matter 2

Performance Objectives

Student should be able to:

  1. Explain the three constituents that make up an atom
  2. Explain the arrangement of electrons around the nucleus
  3. Solve calculations on empirical and molecular formula

Content

Protons, neutrons and electrons

The atoms of all elements are made up of three particles called protons, neutrons and electrons. The protons and neutrons are at the center of the atom. The center of the atom is called a nucleus. While the electrons revolve around the nucleus.
