Uses of building materials

Different building materials are required for different purposes in a building.

Materials needed for the foundation are

Cement

Gravel

Materials needed for walling are

Uses of building materials

Sand

This is the commonest building material used for making concrete, block, and plastering.

Cement

This s an essential material in building construction used as a binding agent in concrete, block moulding and plastering.

Gravel

This is a constituent of concrete which is used in building construction. There are two main types of gravel which are pebbles and granite

Concrete

Mixture of sand, cement, gravel with water

Wood

This is a natural product that forms the trunk of trees and used for roofing, ceiling structures, making furniture, doors and windows.

Block

This is used for erecting walls

Ceramics

This is used for making water closet, glass, floor tiles, bricks, POP etc

Leaves and grasses

These are commonly used for building huts and also used for was and roofing in the olden days.
