Surface plate

The surface plate is a precision piece of equipment with a flat surface of the high-grade finish, on which workpieces are placed for marking out. When testing for flatness, the surface is smeared with Prussian blue, so that when the workpiece is placed on it, the high spot is indicated for scraping.
