Alkanols (alcohols)

Alkanols are organic molecules containing only carbon (C), hydrogen (H), and oxygen (O) atoms.

 Alkanols belong to the group of organic compounds known as alcohol.

 Alcohols are hydroxyl compounds, they contain an OH, hydroxy (or hydroxyl), functional group.

Alkanols consist of an alkane that contains a hydroxyl (OH) group. The molecular formula of alkanol is CnHn + 1OH and ROH for alcohol.
