Factorization of polynomial

Show that x - 1 is a factor off(x) = 2x3 + 3x2 – 5x – 6

Solution

f(-1)   = 2(-1)3 + 3(-1)2 – 5(-1) – 6

          = -2 + 3 + 5 – 6

Hence x + 1 is a factor of f(x)

Show that x + 1 is a factor of f(x) = x3 + 2x2 – 5x – 6

Hence factorise f(x) completely.
