     1. Explain the effects or benefit of forest on the environment.   

Content

There are several ways by which forest can influence our environment and these include:

1. By serving as windbreaks: Forest help to reduce the effect of strong wind on bare soils and farmlands. In this way, soil erosion and desert encroachment are drastically checked.

2. By improving soil fertility: When forest leaves and dead branches of trees fall on the soil, they decay and mix with animal waste to form humus which helps to improve soil fertility.
