Content

Nutrients include both organic and inorganic compounds. The organic compounds include carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and vitamins. Inorganic compounds contain minerals and water. Plant cells require mineral salts or elements obtained from the soil in the form of solution for healthy growth and development. Depending upon the quantity of nutrients in food, the nutrients are classified as macronutrients and micronutrients.

 

Macronutrients

Macronutrients are those nutrients which are needed in large amounts for healthy growth and development. Examples are phosphorus, nitrogen, sulphur, iron, hydrogen, carbon, calcium, oxygen, magnesium and potassium.
