Causes of delay in emergency management in the community

1. Absence of medical personnel: This is a situation whereby the medical doctor who is supposed to be on duty is absent thereby, causing a delay in attending to a victim.

2. The attitude of staff: This is when the staffs of a medical home’s approach to work appear non-challant. This may also lead to a delay in an emergency situation. 

3. Lack of Finance: Cost constraint is a major cause of emergency delay, the victim’s family may be asked to deposit a certain amount of money which may be difficult to get before the victim receives treatments.

4. Lack of medical resources/shortage of supplies: This is the shortage of medical equipment in the hospital, and it can lead to a delay when medical supplies are not available.

5. Lack of access to equipment: This is when office equipment is kept in the possession of a senior officer who may not be on duty; and when there is an emergency, the officers on duty may not be able to perform their duties due to the lack of access of equipment.

6. Lack of healthcare personnel: There may be a delay in emergency response when there are limited numbers of healthcare personnel on duty.

7. Condition of roads: Bad road network like ditches and potholes may also lead to a cause of delay in an emergency situation in the sense that while transporting the victim to the hospital, the victim may fall unconscious or even die.
