Performance Objectives.

Students should be able to

1. Identify equivalent fractions of a given fraction.
2. Apply equivalent fraction in sharing of commodities.
3. Solve problems in quantitative reasoning on fractions.
4. Find equivalent of any given fraction.

Content.

A fraction is a part of a whole. Eg 2/3,1/4,35/45 etyc.

An equivalent fraction is a fraction that is equal to each other.eg ½=2/4=3/6=4/8 etc.

Example1:

Find a fraction equivalent to 1/5 when n=2

1/5=2/n

Cross multiply

1xn=2x5

N=10.

Therefore1/5=2/10.

Example 2: Find the first three fractions which are equivalent to ¾.

¾=6/8=9/12=12/16.

Note 3/4X1/1.3/4x2/2,3/4x3/3,3/4x4/4.
