1. Count and write in Millions and Billions.

2. Apply the counting, writing and reading of large numbers in everyday life.

Content.

The digits 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 are used when writing numbers.

Here we will be counting in millions and billions.

A million has 8 digits that’s  1 and 6 zeros, while a billion has 10 digits, that is 1 and 9 zeros.

Example1: Fill in the gap 999997__________, 999999 ______________.

Answer: 999998, 1,000,000.

Example 2:Fill in the gap.

999999997, 999999998,____________,________________.

Answer: 999999999, 10000000000.

PERIOD 2.

Example Write as a mixture digits Ꞥ4.6million.

4.6 million=4.6X 1000000

Ꞥ4600,000.

Example 2: A newspaper report says ‘the country’s external reserves grew from 32.08 billion dollars in May 2011 to 48.4 billion dollars as at May 2013.

Write the two amounts in

1. Their full digits.
2. Words.

Answer: a) Digits

$32.08 billion=$32 billion+ $0.08 billion.

$ 0.08 billion =0.08 X1000000000

=$8000000.

$32.08 billion=$32080000000.

$48.4 billion=48 billion+$0.4 billion.

$0.4 billion=$0.4 X1000000000

=$400 million.

$48.4 billion=$48 400 000 0000.
