Content
Oxides of carbon
An oxide is a compound that contains only two elements, one of which is oxygen. When carbon is heated to oxygen or air, it forms two oxides namely carbon(iv)oxide CO2, carbon(ii)oxide CO. the oxide formed depends on the availability of oxygen.
Carbon(iv)oxide
carbon(iv)oxide was first discovered by Van Helmond towards the end of the sixteenth century. It is one of the natural occurring inorganic compounds of carbon.
