Chemical reactions 2
Performance objectives
Students should be able to:
- Explain exothermic and endothermic reactions with examples
- State Le chatelier’s principle
- List and explain two factors affecting chemical equilibrium.
Content
Exothermic and endothermic reactions
In the course of a chemical reaction, energy in the form of heat is either given out or taken in from the surroundings, depending on heat content of the reactant and the product.
A chemical reaction in which heat is given off to the surrounding is known as exothermic reaction, while that in which heat is absorbed from the surroundings is known as endothermic reaction.
The term exothermic and endothermic reactions apply not only to chemical changes, but also to physical changes. Examples of exothermic and endothermic.... View More
