DATABASE
What is a Database?
A database is a single organized collection of data for one or more purposes stored with minimum duplication of data items so as to provide a consistent and controlled pool of data.
For example, a school students’ database will contain data relating to the students, academic results, school fees, accommodation, parent information etc for the purpose of managing the student. Traditionally, databases are organized by fields, records and files.
A field is a single piece of information (comprising of data items); a record is one complete set of fields; and a file is a collection of records.
A database is usually created using a database package called Data Base Management System (DBMS) and Relational Data Base Management System (RDBMS).
