TOPIC: Factors that Led to the Rise of the Ancient Mali Empire

The rise of the ancient Mali Empire was unexpected as smaller kingdoms such as Susu, under the former Ghana Empire tried to rise and fill the political void left by the ancient Ghana Empire. For an empire, twice the size of the ancient Ghana Empire, a lot of factors contributed to the rise of the ancient Mali Empire and they are:

1. The fall of the Ghana Empire: The Almoravid Muslims conquered ancient Ghana but could not hold the territory for long, as the remnants made control and administration difficult for their conqueror. So, the Almoravids left the people and the former provinces became autonomous and adopted self-government.

2. Good administration and leadership: While the Almoravids found it difficult to hold and control the fallen Ghana empire, Sundiata Keita was intelligent enough to adopt methods that made the empire easy to govern and control.
