VOWEL SOUND (/i/ and /i:/)
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE
Students should be able to;
- Identify vowels /i/ and /i:/
- Produce the vowels correctly
- Differentiate between the vowels knowing that /i/ is a short vowel and /i:/ is a long vowel.
CONTENT
Vowels /i/ and /i:/ are pronounced differently.
As indicated by the /:/ part of its symbol, /i:/ is a longer sound than /ɪ/ and pronouncing it this way can help distinguish between the two in the pairs of words below.
