Definition

Beverages are fluids consumed as stimulants.  Examples of beverages are coffee, Tea, Cocoa drinks, wine, spirits and beer of different types.

CLASSIFICATION OF BEVERAGES

There are two types of beverages

1.       Non-alcoholic beverages and

2.       Alcoholic beverages

Non-alcoholic beverages are those that do not contain any alcohol e.g. Coffee, Tea, Cocoa products and fruit drinks and juices, while alcoholic beverages have some percentage of alcohol examples of alcoholic beverages are wine, spirit and beer of different types.

EVALUATION

1.       Define beverages.

2.       Classify beverages and give an example of each.

TOPIC – FRUIT JUICES AND DRINKS

CONTENT

Lemonade

Ingredients

2 Lemons

1 pint of boiling water

Sugar to taste

Procedure:

1. Wash lemons, and cut a few thin pieces of the rind from one of them.

2. Squeeze out the juice of both lemons into a jug.  Add lemon rind and sugar.  Pour on boiling water

3. Cover the jug and allow the lemonade to stand until cold. Strain and chill if possible.  Oranges or grapefruits may be used instead of lemon.

PINEAPPLE DRINK INGREDIENTS

Pineapple peelings

Sugar to taste

A few cloves.

2 pints of water

Procedure:

1.       Wash the pineapple very well before peeling.  Put the peelings in an enamel saucepan and cover with water.

2.       Bring to a boil and boil for 5-10 minutes.

3.       Strain and add the cloves and allow them to stand until cold.

4.       Sweeten.  Remove cloves and chill before serving.

EVALUATION

1.       Explain the procedure for preparing lemonade drinks

2.       List the ingredient for the preparation of the pineapple drink.
