TRANSPORT SYSTEM 1

BIOLOGY SSS 2 FIRST TERM

WEEK FOUR

TRANSPORT SYSTEM 1

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE

Students should be able to;

  1. Define diffusion
  2. Explain the inadequacy of diffusion alone as a system of transport for complex organisms
  3. Explain the necessity of a transport system in a complex organism
  4. Identify the source of material and where they are transported to.

CONTENT

In biology, transport refers to the act or how a molecule or ion is moved across the cell membrane or via the bloodstream. There are two types of transport in this regard: (1) passive transport and (2) active transport. Passive transport is a kind of transport by which ions or molecules move along a concentration gradient, which means moving from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. The four major types of passive transport are diffusion, facilitated diffusion, filtration, and osmosis. Active transport is a.... View More
