2. Bulkiness: This means the weight, size and quantity of the farm products to be packaged. The weight and size of agricultural products determine the way they are packaged. For example, processed fish are packaged in cartons made of paper for convenience in transportation.

3. Condition of the produce (live, frozen or dry stock): Live animals to be transported over a distance are packaged in a way to ensure that they do not die of shortage of oxygen before they are discharged. Most live animals are packaged using cages.

Consequently, day-old chicks are packed in perforated paper made cartons over a long distance. Frozen processed animals may be packaged in a plastic container or plastic polythene that can enter deep freezer used for their storage. Dried stock are mostly packages in cartons or trays.

4. Distance to market: Distance to market from the farm gate before the goods get to the final consumers also determine the way most agricultural products are packaged. They have to be packaged in a way that their qualities will not be compromised no matter the distance from the farm gate to the market.

Furthermore, to prevent loss of farm yields and damage, farm products are well packaged to enhance distance marketing.
