How Popular Organisations are formed

There are lots of factors which necessitate the formation of popular organizations, and many ways in which popular organizations are formed.

Popular organizations are formed in the following ways:

1. Through ethnic groups

Some political parties and pressure groups in the country emanated from ethnic groups. The Northern People's Congress metamorphosed from the Northerner 's ethnic group known as Jam Iyyar Mutanen Arewa founded in December 1949. The party was dominated by people with the same ethnicity, the Hausa-Fulanis. Also, the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) can be reclined to the ethnic groups of the Yoruba on its formation.

2. Through ideology

Some political parties and pressure groups are formed based on different political ideologies or beliefs. This kind of parties - popular organizations are called ideological parties. Examples are the communist party of Russia, the Chinese Socialist Party, the fascist party of Italy, etc.

3. Through constitution

In many countries of the world, it is the constitution that determines the kind of party to exist and also instructs how such parties will be run. Some countries constitutions allow for zero party, one party, etc.

4. Through unionism

Many popular organizations are formed out of various unions of different kinds like the economic unions- trade union, labour union, social unions - student union.

5. Through charisma or personality

Some popular organizations like political parties are formed or led by individuals with charisma. Examples of such popular organizations include T.A.N.U led by Dr Julius Nyerere; U.P.N. with Late Chief Awolowo as its leaders; N.P.P under the leadership of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, etc.
