Meaning of constituted authority

Authority can be described as the right to give orders and make people obey those orders. The right to command and enforce obedience, therefore, is called authority.

Constituted authority is duly established leadership recognized by the people. In our school, the head teacher, and other teachers and, by extension, the school prefects and class monitors, form a good example of constituted authority. In the traditional community, the Oba, Obi and Emir are each the constituted authority in their respective areas.
