Meaning of forgery

Forgery is the act of making a false signature, a copy of a painting or of another document.

Forgery can also be defined as the crime of falsely making or altering a writing by which the legal rights or obligations of another person are apparently affected.

Example of forgery is faking your mother’s signature on a note explaining your absence from school.
