Linear Momentum

Physics SSS1 Third Term

Linear Momentum

Performance Objectives

Students should be able to:

  1. Examine momentum and impulses
  2. State Newton’s law of motion
  3. Explain the conservation of linear momentum
  4. Describe the application of Newton’s law of motion

Newton’s First Law of Motion – Idea of Inertia

States that an object continues in its states of rest or uniform motion in a straight line unless an external force acts on it.

It is a common experience that a body at rest will remain at rest. For example, a book at rest on top of a table will remain there unless something pushes it or pulls at it. Also as was first pointed out by Galileo, the motion of a body once started, would continue along a straight line path.... View More
