Classification of wood

Wood is broadly classified into

  1. Hardwood
  2. Softwood
  1. Hardwood: they are also known as deciduous trees which has broad leaves that are shed annually in the dry season to prevent loss of water e.g. insomnia, mahogany, afara, omo, beech, obeche etc.
  2. Softwood: they are also known as coniferous trees that have needle-like leaves which do not shed annually and are evergreen in nature. E.g. spruce, pine, fir,…
