Current induced by a magnet

We can reproduce some of Faraday's simple experiments to demonstrate electromagnetic induction.

A coil of wire is produced by winding a length of insulated wire round a hollow cardboard cylinder.

The coil is connected to a centre-zero galvanometer G.

If we suddenly push the north pole of a powerful magnet towards and into the coil, the galvanometer is found to give a deflection while the magnet is moving, indicating that a current is flowing. This current is called an induced current. If the…
