Exothermic and endothermic reactions

In the course of a chemical reaction, energy in the form of heat is either given out or taken in from the surroundings, depending on heat content of the reactant and the product.

        A chemical reaction in which heat is given off to the surrounding is known as exothermic reaction, while that in which heat is absorbed from the surroundings is known as endothermic reaction.
