The history of physical education in Nigeria dates back to before the coming of the colonial masters in 1900. Although some physical activities have been carried out in an informal way before the emergence of the colonial master, activities such as fishing, riding horse, hunting, swimming, moonlight games, wrestling, climbing hills, traditional boxing, archery, spear throwing etc. have been practised primitively.
