Definition of recreation  

Recreation are activities which are voluntarily done during one’s leisure time, recreation is any activity engaged in during a free time.

Recreational activities are often done for enjoyment or pleasure purposes. Examples of recreation include listening to music, watching movies, singing, dancing, playing video games, playing football, reading novels, travelling etc.

Types of recreational activities

Indoor recreational activities

Indoor recreational activities are activities that are performed inside an enclosed space. Examples of indoor recreational activities are; dancing, reading, ludo, singing, chess, etc.

Outdoor recreational activities

Outdoor recreational activities are activities that are performed in an open space such as outside a building, a beach, playground, sports field, etc. Examples of outdoor recreational activities are climbing, football, fishing, hunting, horse riding, cycling, adventure racing.

Difference between outdoor and indoor recreational activities

They are performed in an open space

They keep the participants fit because it mostly requires physical exercise.

They do not make the participant fit.

The playing areas are usually bigger.

Indoor activities carried out within a house or building are table tennis, badminton etc.

Outdoor activities outside a house or building include swimming.
