Probability Distributions

Performance Objectives

Students should be able to:

  1. Use binomial expansion to solve simple problems.
  2. Use the poisson distribution to solve simple problems.
  3. Identify the properties of a normal distribution curve.

Content

Probability Distribution

Certain natural occurrences have random behaviors. From the nature of their randomness, we can build a theoretical probability model or distribution. Such a model or theoretical frequency distribution is called a PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTION.

The most important of these models are:

a. The binomial distribution;

b. The poisson distribution;

c. The normal distribution.
