CONTENT

Soil is the uppermost layer of the earth's crust on which plants grow. Soil consists of a solid matter of minerals and organic matter, as well as a pore space that holds gases and water. Soils consist of a three-state system of solids, liquids, and gases.

Soil is also the mixture of organic matter, minerals, gases, liquids, and organisms that together support life.
