Definition of Forest Resources

Forest resources are the goods and services of the forest either in it's natural state, as a raw material which generates direct economic benefits or as a producer of indirect benefits.

These forest resources include:

1. Trees such as iroko, opepe, obeche, mahogany etc which provides timber.

2. Wildlife are undomesticated animals living in the forest. Animals like lion, elephant, tiger, antelope, zebra etc which are mostly caught and placed in zoos.

3. Fruit trees such as plum tree, almond, avocado, cherry, olive, walnut etc

4. Herb trees such as neem and calaba tree provides medicinal herbs to man.

Other uses of forest include:

1. Provision of employment to people as forest guard rangers, technicians etc.

2. Provision of shelter to wildlife.

3. Provision of foreign exchange to the country.

4. Provision of research centres.

5. Provision of revenue to government through the issuance of licences for timber felling.
