The term agriculture is derived from two Latin words: the first is ‘Ager’which means field or land, and the second being ‘Cultura’ meaning to cultivate. Literally, agriculture is referred to as field cultivation.
Today, agriculture can be defined as the art and science of cultivating the soil to grow crops and the rearing of animals for man's use or consumption.
