HCF (Highest common Factor).

Performance Objectives.

Students should be able to

1. Identify common factors of whole numbers.

2. Find the HCF of whole numbers.

3. Identify the difference between LCM and HCF.

4. Solve problems on quantitative reasoning using LCM and HCF.

Content.

A factor is a number that can divide another number without a remainder.

Example 1: Calculate the cf of 24 and 30.

24=1,2,3,4,6,8,12,24.

30=1,2,3,5,6,10,15,30.

Common factor=1,2,3,6.

Example 2:Find the HCF of 45,60 and 150.

HCF=3.

Note unlike LCM ,in HCF once a number can’t go in all the number given, you can’t use the number.
